Pre-employment Assessments: The Final Piece of the Puzzle

We woke up to a new year where the job market belongs to candidates.  Not long ago, candidates were afraid to leave a job because another one might not be available.  Now, people have lots of choices, and recruiters need to ramp up their game when it comes to finding the best fit for a vacant position. Misunderstood Millennials

Our workplaces are a complex mix of ages, ethnicities, management styles and personal needs.  There are now 5 generations at work, each of them bringing their own values, skills and education to the job.  We have Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, Millennials (or GenY) and the youngest, not yet named generation that I think should be labelled "Generation Text". It is scary how few employers in Canada check references.  Larger companies with Human Resource departments know the value of reference checks, but smaller, entrepreneurial firms are often pressed for time and so reference checks go by the wayside.  The time invested in reference checks is worth every minute. It is a chance to verify what candidates told you, and to assess the relationship between previous employers and your candidate.
